FERPA COMPLIANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT
WHAT IS FERPA?
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 is a United States federal law that gives parents access to their child's education records, an opportunity to seek to have the records amended, and some control over the disclosure of information from the records.
PENALTIES FOR NONCOMPLIANCE
An educational institution that fails to comply with FERPA may forfeit its federal funding. Some states also allow for monetary damages for the disclosure of private information.
